Was the year 2007 unlucky for Yash Raj production?

Last year,Yash Raj produced successful movies like Dhoom2,Fanaa and Kabul Express but in 2007 the banner gave just one super-hit movie,Chak De,out of the five relased by Yash Raj Production.Even Bachchans couldn't save Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

WHAT HAPPENED to Yash Raj production, which has given us blockbusters such as Silsila, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Veer Zaara in early years? These movies may be called as milestones in the history of bollywood. Now, the same production house has given us series of disasters such as Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Tara Ram Pam, Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag and the most recent Aaja Nachle in year 2007.

Yash Chopra is considered to be an unfathomable figure in bollywood. He has made the emotion-packed movie like Dhool Ka Phool. At the same time, he went on to create the angry young man image through movies such as Deewar, Trishul and Joshila. He embodied great flexibility in his movies during that period. For every Mashaal, there was a soulful Lamhe.

On one side he portrayed Shahrukh Khan as an obsessive lover in Darr, on the other hand Vinod Khanna as the sacrificing lover in Chandni. His son, Aditya Chopra, made ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge’ that became one of the biggest blockbusters in bollywood film industry.

Over the years, the Yash Raj Camp, which had been nurturing talent for a long time, decided to provide a platform to budding directors to help them in realizing their dreams in bollywood. New directors like Sanjay Gadhvi, Kunal Kohli, Shaad Ali, Siddharth Anand, Arjun Sablok and Shimit Amin have all been given chance under the Yash Raj banner. It resulted in increased numbers of the films with degraded quality of movies produced by the banner.

However, the year 2006 had been a good year for Yash Raj with successful movies such as Dhoom 2, Fanaa and Kabul express but in 2007, it gave just one super-hit movie out of the five released by Yash Raj production. Even Bachchans couldn’t change the fate of movie Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. The critics have hit out at all the movies including Rani Mukherjee’s Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag and Saif and Rani starrer Tara Ram Pam. Chak De was single movie that did fair business this year.

In Bollywood, the reputations and fate change in just one day and it seems Yash Raj production is losing the reputation it has earned in so many years. They have Tashan and Roadside Romeo to look forward in 2008 and they can hope for the best by not looking back to the history.
