India 2008 wrap of best and worst

Here is a wrap of the best and worst of 2008:

1. Best Indian achievement in sports: Abhinav Bindra became the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic games.

2. Best entertainment of the year: IPL matches (Twenty 20) matches kicked off in India. Aired in Set Max, it was the most watched TV event 2008. Indian premiere league matches commenced on April 18 2008 and culminated on June 1, 2008. The most unexpected team or the under-dog Rajasthan Royal won the IPL series under the captaincy of Shane Warne.

3. Worst natural disaster in India: The 2008 Bihar flood is the worst flood in the history of Bihar. It happened due to a breach in the Kosi embankment near Indo-Nepal border (at a place called Kusha in Nepal) on 18th August 2008. The river changed its course and t he flood affected over 2.3 million people in the northern part of the state of Bihar.

4. Worst man made disaster in India: The terror attack on 26/11 in Mumbai is supposed to be the worst terror attack in India, second only to 9/11. Terrorists from Pakistan attacked Mumbai CST, took siege of Taj hotel and Trident-Oberoi hotel from 11 pm 26th November 2008. Brave NSG commandoes came to rescue and gunned down all terrorists by 30th November' 2008. About 250 lives were lost in the terror attacks with many injured, and property worth 700 crores were destroyed.

5. Best movie of 2008: Ghajini, the Aamir Khan starrer proved to be the biggest hit of 2008. Ghajini is the only movie with the best advanced booking, running to packed houses in the history of Bollywood.

6. Best actor and actress of 2008: Aamir Khan's brilliant performance in Ghajini and Priyanka Chopra in Fashion.

7. Most watched TV reality show : The mother of all reality shows, Bigg Boss kicked off on August 17 th 2008 and ended on November 22' 2008. The high point of the show when Rahul Mahajan, Zulfi Syed, Raja Choudhary and Ashutosh Kaushik-the finalists, ran away from the house to search for food outside. Rahul later quit from the show. Eventually, Ashutosh Kaushik won the show.

8. Most watched TV channel: Colors Channel, replaced Star plus as the most watched channel. It kicked off with the dare devil game show for women: Khatron Ke Khiladi. Close on the heels was the widely watched Bigg Boss. Colors channels also had a good line up of serials like Balika Vadhu, Utran, Jaane Kya Baath Hui, Jai Shri Krishna and Ek Khiladi Ek Hasina. The channel is still going strong with innovative shows like Dancing Queen and Chotey Miya. The year 2008 also show two of the flagship Starplus serials, Kyunki Saans Bhi Bahu Thi and Kahan Ghar Ghar Ki, making an unceremonious exit.

9. Worst crime 2008: Arushi murder case was probably the worst murder case in the sense that it intrigued the police for months. On May 16, 2008, Arushi a 14 year old girl was found murdered with her throat slit her parents' home at Jalvayu Vihar in Noida, a posh suburb of Delhi. Her servant Hemraj who was initially suspected by the police was also found murdered on the terrace of her building. A disorganized, confused investigation by the Noida Police led to the arrest of Arushi's dentist father Rajesh Talwar. Rajesh's wife Dr. Nupur Talwar protested that her husband was frame and requested the UP government to transfer the case to CBI. The team finally arrested accused Krishna, Rajkumar and Vijay Mandal in connection with the murdered and absolved Rajesh Talwar of the murder charge. On August 9 2008, CBI director Ashwani Kumar said that the case is still unsolved, as many important corroborative pieces of evidence yet to be found. This was one murder case which was played to the top by the media and police; both whom were later blamed to giving hasty conclusion and indulging in character assassination of the slain Arushi and her father.

10. Best author of the year 2008: Booker Prize Winner Aravind Adiga made India proud as he became the Booker Prize Winner for his interesting book-The White Tiger.

11. Best achievement in the field of modelling, 2008: Parvathi Omanakuttan won the Miss World Runner Up Prize, at Johannesburg, South Africa on December 13, 2008.

12. Best advertisement of the year 2008: Max New York Life Insurance Company advertisement that has a newly married couple asking their toddler to say "banana" and "Czechoslovakia" became house-hold name.

13. Best achievement in the world of technology:Chandrayaan 1, India's first mission to the moon launched by India's national space agency the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on 22 October 2008 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 06:22 IST (00:52 UTC).The vehicle was successfully inserted into lunar orbit on 8 November 2008.

Unforeseen circumstances, however, forces Taani to get married to Surinder and Taani finds herself in a love-less, routine life due in part to the large difference in their age and personalities.
To escape her mundane marital life, Taani learns dancing and wants to participate in a dance competition, a reality show called “Dancing Jodi”. Surinder wants to make his wife happy and supports her. He then,with the help of his childhood friend Balwinder Khosla ‘Bobby’ (Vinay Pathak), metamorphoses into an alternate persona, named Raj who is a quick witted, outspoken, smart, dashing, fun loving person who fortunately becomes Taani’s partner in the competition.
Taani, not able to recognize that Raj is the same one with whom she is married to, eventually starts to feel that Raj’s personality and nature are more in tune with what she is comfortable with. Raj expresses his love for Taani and then they plan to elope from Amritsar on the night of the dancing competition. Surinder doesn’t tell the truth to Taani because he wants to find out with whom Taani is really in love with. In the morning of the competition, Tanni realizes that her true love is Surinder and not Raj. She denies Raj”s feelings and tells him the truth. And at last Surinder presents his reality to her. Hence the story ends merrily.

Building a portal in MOSS 2007

For creating a portal in MOSS 2007, follow the steps given below.

• Create a web application

• Create Site collection

Create a web application

1. Go to Start All Programs Microsoft Office ServerSharepoint 3.0 Central Administration.

It opens up the Central Administration page of the Sharepoint server.

2. Select the tab ‘Application Management’.

3. Click on ‘Create or extend Web Application’

4. Click on ‘Create a new web application’. It opens the Web Application creation page. Give values for Description and Port for IIS web site or leave it as default ( as all the values are used for backend governance). You may have to select the Security account as ‘Network Service’ under Application pool. Click on OK.

Create Site Collection

1. In the Application Management section of the central administration page, Click on ‘Create Site Collection’ link present under the section ‘Sharepoint site management’.

2. Select the web application. Enter the Title and Description of the site and URL. Select the template. You have to give the owners of the site also. Click on OK.

3. After a while, the site collection gets created and displays a page with the URL of the Site as shown below.

Tarun Mansukhani is mighty pleased with the kind of response he is getting for the bodies that John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra have acquired for DOSTANA. Accolodes have been coming in from all quarters as both John and Priyanka ignite the heat in their pursuit for acquiring best bodies in the town.

“While John has worked hard on his physique and made sure that heads (belonging to both women and men) turn around him wherever he goes, I am not surprised since he seems to have been born with a six pack abs. What amazes me though is the strange body that Priyanka Chopra has”, says Tarun Mansukhani, debutant director who is beginning his innings with this Karan Johar production.

“Well, she eats so much and doesn’t even work out much. Still, she manages to hold her figure. I guess it’s her metabolism that allows her to be this way. With DOSTANA, she could well be termed as a sexy girl next door”, smiles Tarun.

Abhishek seems to be just the same though as in all his films, isn’t it?

“In fact Abhi too has gone through some transformation as he was still working on DRONA when DOSTANA began. He was in fact the fittest since even when John would be tired, he would push him to get back on his feet and face the camera”, reveals Tarun.

But he doesn’t seem to be flaunting his body the way John is in the film. Why is that case?

Defends Tarun, “See the film and you would know for yourself. The kind of body type that he is carrying is something like is required for the character. It is truly in conjunction with the film. In any case, Abhi is a completely changed person for DOSTANA and is looking really fantastic.”

When fate lands him in a slum, after his initial disappointment, he smooth talks his way out of trouble. He finds himself to be more intelligent than the average street guy and he takes full advantage of this fact to turn things around to his benefit. He thinks there is no harm in lying to get the things you want badly

All said and done, Romeo’s heart is still in the right place. He’s great guy. He’s a dude!!!

Kareena Kapoor as Laila

Laila’s the hottest female dog ever and she knows it! She is the lead singer and dancer at the Moonlight Nightclub. This is where all the males throng every week when she performs. There isn’t a male guy alive in the slum who doesn’t dream of dancing with the beautiful, Laila some day. She’s not only got the looks, but the talent to sing and dance and heaps of attitude and arrogance to go with it too.

In spite of the large list of admirers, Laila is a lonely girl, all thanks to Charlie Anna, the Don of the slum. He is besotted by her and everyone is terrified of his anger. The consequences of just talking to Laila, forget dancing with her, can be fatal and due to this, she has no friends. The girls are jealous of her and the guys scared of Charlie’s wrath.

She dreams of finding a sweet, honest and brave guy who will have the courage to be friends with her, dance with her, in spite of whatever Charlie may feel. Even though she is the hottest girl, inside she’s a sweetheart.

Javed Jaffrey as Charlie Anna

Charlie Anna is the dreaded Don of the slum. Anna means big brother and that’s what everyone calls him out of fear. He is the cause of fear in everyone’s heart. He’s a dirty, fat and ugly dog with a big bouncy belly.

Charlie Anna is a pompous old fool who loves nothing more than hearing his praises.

His moods are unpredictable and that is what makes him dangerous, yet at heart he is a hopeless romantic, a softie with a tough exterior.

Vrajesh Hirjee as Guru

Guru is the oldest among the four goons. He is also the wisest among them, though that’s not saying much. The other three always look up to him like an elder brother for advice. He’s also a typical street ruffian.

Kiku Sharda as Hero English

Hero English is one of the four goons, part of the gang of friends in the slum. He’s a typical goon, a ruffian but a bit slow in the head, just like his three friends. Though he looks ferocious, he’s a harmless chap. He’s been born and brought up in this slum. Even though he has no clue, he’s always trying to speak in English, to a very comical effect.

Interval is the third member of the gang. He’s a total film buff.

Tannaz Irani as Mini

Mini is the last member of the gang of four. Mini is actually an alley cat who is a wannabe stray dog. She looks up to Guru, Hero English and Interval and wants to be just like them. She is in denial that she is a cat. She refuses to accept that and thinks of herself as a stray dog much to the annoyance of her three friends who keep trying to drill some sense into her that she is no dog, but just an ordinary alley cat.

Synopsis

This is the story of Romeo. A dog who was living a life of complete style. He was a complete dude. He had the works - a mansion to live in, chicks to party with and the cars to be driven around in, until one day, the family he was the favourite pet of, decided to move and left him back, abandoned on the mean streets of Mumbai.

Romeo is now faced with situations he has never been in before. He encounters four stray dogss, who scare the living daylights out of him. Soon, he smooth talks his way into their hearts and becomes friends with them.

Then, Romeo finds love! He encounters the beautiful, ravishing Laila, the most beautiful female dog he has ever seen… and he loses his heart to her at first sight!

And finally, he encounters a villain! The dreaded Don of the area - Charlie Anna! The Don who everyone is scared of.

Serial bomb blasts rip Assam; 61 feared dead

At least 61 people have been killed and over 200 injured in 12 serial blasts in Assam.

Probably one of the most powerful blast to have rocked Guwahati, the impact of the blast indicate that the nature of the explosives used in these blasts was different from the kind of excplosives used earlier.

There were six near-simultaneous blasts in Guwahati at about 11:30 am on Thursday in crowded market places --Ganeshguri, Pan Bazaar Fancy bazaar and the District Court complex. The high-intensity blasts set off fire in several areas.

Guwahati Superintendent of Police G P Singh said that the police and fire brigade were engaged in controlling the fire.

The next blast occurred in front of the DC's office injuring many and destroying several cars parked there, the sources said.

The third explosion rocked areas near the police station of the busy Fancy Bazar, triggering panic among shoppers, many of whom were injured, the sources said.

Two other bombs exploded at Ganeshguri near the capital complex and Fancy Bazar area.

Three blasts took place in Barpeta district, while two explosions occurred in Bongaigaon. Two persons were killed in twin blasts in Kokrajhar districts, the sources said.

In Kokrajhar, the explosives were suspected to have been planted in a two-wheeler.

Following the blasts, which the police suspect to be the handiwork of the banned ULFA and HUJI extremists, a red alert was sounded across the state. Later, curfew was imposed in Guwahati after angry crowds attack ambulances and fire engines.

Ganeshguri is one of the worst hit area. There have been several blasts in this area earlier but what was unusual this time was the reaction of the people. People reacted, almost erupted, in angry mob violence - pelting stones, setting vehicles on fire and even targeting the media.

As Guwahati tried to get on its feet, news of other blasts from Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Baripeta came in. Ironically in Baripeta, the police found a bomb at 9 am but by the time they could find experts to defuse it, the bomb exploded. Fortunately since the area had been cleared, there were no deaths there.

The state government struggled to find answers.

"If it is ULFA behind the blast then the outfit has reasserted its strength. If other outfits are involved, then it is a matter of greater concern. Outfits like HuJI have some presence here and the Maoists have entered North-east already," said Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister, Assam.

"It is not improbable that dynaminc of terrorism in Assam and in North-East may have changed and that demands a change of template in counter-insurgency operations. The borders have been sealed, para-military forces deployed but it seems it will be a long time that the state will recover from its worst ever terror attack," he said.

Assam government also appeared to go along the police line. "It is very early to make a conclusion but ULFA has a history of triggering serial blasts," Assam's Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters minutes after the explosions.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil condemned the blasts. Minister of State for Home Shakeel Ahmed said there was no intelligence failure. However, Leader of Opposition L K Advani charged that the "UPA has completely failed to curb terror," adding "it seems Bangladeshi militants are behind the blasts."

The Union Home Ministry is seeking an immediate report from the Assam government on the serial blasts. Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta spoke to Assam Chief Secretary to find out the details of the incidents. (With PTI inputs)
