Oscar Awards 2009 tonight

In Oscar awards 2009 British production “Slumdog Millionaire” will be the heavy favorite looking to complete a sweep of the top Hollywood awards season prizes and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” may be the top nominee heading into tonight’s 81st Academy Awards ceremony.

Oscar nominees in any acting categories, “Slumdog Millionaire” still has 10 nominations, second only to “Benjamin Button’s” 13 nods.

Danny Boyle’s drama, which is set in the ghettos of Mumbai, is a heavy favorite to take home the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay prizes. But the movie didn’t begin the awards season as Hollywood’s pack leader.

Five times Kate Winslet has been denied the big prize. But tonight could finally mark the end of her losing streak.

81st Academy Awards get under way at 8 p.m. today, expect some big changes across the board. Instead of a comic such as Jon Stewart or Billy Crystal handling hosting duties, Hugh Jackman will be master of ceremonies, with an all-new production team (including ”Dreamgirls” maestros Bill Condon and Laurence Mark) calling the shots.

“Benjamin Button’s” 13 nominations are one short of the record 14 nods given to the 1950 film “All About Eve” and 1997’s “Titanic.”
