'Sarkar Raj' draws overwhelming response at IIFA

Bangkok (PTI): Keenly-awaited Bollywood flick 'Sarkar Raj', featuring cast from celebrity family of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, today received an overwhelming response at its premiere at high-profile International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) ceremony here.

A political thriller, showcasing Amitabh along with son Abhishek Bachchan and his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 'Sarkar Raj' drew huge crowds to its premiere at a theatre in a Bangkok shopping mall, almost putting the situation out of the hand for security guards at times.

While the immensely popular family of superstars walked by for the premiere, a large number of people cheered them from sides of the green carpet and desperately tried for pictures.

The premiere of the film directed by Ram Gopal Verma kicks off a weekend celebrating Indian cinema, including fashion shows and dance performances, all leading up to the awards on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Amitabh and his star wife Jaya Bachchan told reporters that they were excited about the release of 'Sarkar Raj'.

"Since the first screening in Mumbai yesterday, we have been inundated with SMSes complimenting us about our performances. I hope the audience too support the film," Amitabh said.

He said that he was keeping fingers crossed for the premiere.

The movie, a sequel to the film 'Sarkar' which also featured Amitabh, is the first occasion of joint appearance for Abhishek and Aishwarya after their marriage last year.
