She Says vs. He Says: Do Girls Really Like Dating Jerks?

SHE SAYS: No, but we think we do. As someone who dated a jerk, whom I now refer to as my "learning experience," I admit to falling under the jerk spell.

Here's how the jerk spell works: we meet the jerk and in some twisted way are seduced by his confidence, charm, and passion. We don't see these as the disguises they are: confidence is really arrogance, charm comes from him being a player, and his passion is being the center of his own universe.

The jerk sniffs out our insecurities and uses them to reel us in with compliments that eventually turn into criticisms. And if we see a red flag, like the time my "learning experience" told me his definition of a relationship was "light, fun and physical," we play mind games with ourselves. We use our normally rational inner voice to convince ourselves that we can tame him or that with the right kind of girlfriend he will lose his jerk armor and transform into a leading man fit for a romantic comedy. Come on ladies, what are we thinking?!

A jerk loves being a jerk -- way more than he loves us. I guess if they've always gotten away with treating people poorly and nobody ever set them straight, why would they change? Besides, a jerk seems to always have an attractive woman on his arm laughing at his mediocre jokes and ignoring his wandering gaze. How? I think it's because deep down every woman wants a challenge or a little danger. It's not really the jerk we like; it's the thrill of the chase, the rush of adrenaline when the jerk's phone number pops up on our cell (which is usually right after last call).

However, it's been my experience that "jerkdom" isn't some phase we can pull a guy out of. Guys only outgrow that phase when life no longer succumbs to their demands. Any woman who has dated a jerk for more than a week knows that it's a hollow relationship that ultimately leaves you disappointed, hurt, and commiserating with your friends.

The only challenge worth overcoming when dating a jerk is to not let him affect or define your self worth. So if there is a jerk out there making your heart go pitter-pat and estrogen is messing with your reasoning, go ahead and let him woo you, but when he asks for your number tell him that you only date guys who prove their value by respecting a woman. If he's a jerk he'll roll his eyes, say you have an attitude and snicker as he leaves. If he sincerely accepts your ground rules, then chances are you should give him at least one date to prove he's relationship material. Although you may not be spellbound at first, the nice guy without all the smooth answers may ultimately fulfill your needs in more meaningful ways.

HE SAYS: As much as I hate to say it, girls love jerks! At least until the jerk stops calling, which is usually right after he gets what he wants. Speaking from the guy's perspective, I've never quite understood what draws sane, attractive, bright women to guys who act like jerks. Maybe it is the thrill of the unexpected. Maybe it is trying to outplay him in his own game. Maybe it is hoping that deep down he is a nice guy and you are going to prove it to your naysayer friends. What I do know is that too many women who could easily be in a healthy relationship instead choose the cliffhanger ending of dating a jerk that walks with a swagger, winks at anything that moves, and always has a one-liner at the ready.

Truth be told, there aren't many nice guys who haven't considered acting like a jerk, especially when they steal your girl (here I speak from experience). However, daydreaming of jerkdom fades as soon as nice guys remember one thing: being a jerk means acting like a jerk all the time. That means causing the mental pain and emotional anguish that drives a girl to phone her friends -- guy friends included -- crying about what the jerk did to her in public on their first date. Even guys bear the brunt of girls who fall head over heels for jerks.

If you're a girl who feels worse about yourself with every jerk you date, I hope you will make a big move towards respecting yourself and go on a date with a nice guy. They may not offer the drama and constant criticism you've come to expect, but they also won't try to hook up with you after dropping off their other girlfriend. And if you are having trouble distinguishing between a jerk and a nice guy, here are three ways to tell:

1. He's probably a jerk if he tells you to skip desert because your butt already jiggles enough.
2. He's definitely a jerk if he "guilts" you into doing things that make you feel bad about yourself -- usually starting with the line "If you really cared about me..."
3. He's absolutely a jerk if he takes you on a date and leaves you the bill, while he leaves with the waitress.

The annual filmfare awards were presented in a glittering ceremony yesterday(23rd February) at Mumbai at the Yash Raj Studios. It was hosted by Vidya Balan and Karan Johar. had performances from Akshay Kumar, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi. ALong with Himesh Reshamiya. Bipasha Basu

(born January 7, 1979) is a Bollywood actress and supermodel. She was the winner of the Ford's Supermodel of the World Contest for 1996 and is crurrently one of the mainstream Bollywood actresses.

Basu is the second of three daughters in her family. Her siblings are her elder sister Bidisha, and younger sister Bijoyeta . She was born in New Delhi, but her family later moved to Kolkata, where she won a regional beauty contest at a very young age. She has said that she had come into modelling and acting "quite by accident," because initially Bipasha had planned to either study chartered accountancy or medicine. However, she said that she dropped the idea of doing medical studies because she fainted when attempting to dissect rats.
Basu, a Calcutta based commerce graduate model won the Ford's Supermodel of the World Contest and was named Tulips Ms Super Vivacious in the same event at the remarkably young age of 17. Basu was then flown to New York by the Ford Company. She commented in an interview, "I was spotted by the world famous photographer, Steven Meisel, and featured in Vogue magazine. I was thrilled and soon had plenty of projects coming my way." Bipasha gave it all up and came back to India. She said, "Yeah, I did a lot of ads, but my heart was not in it. I started missing my family because it was the first time I was away from them. So I happily gave it all up and came down to India".

Basu made her debut film in Abbas Mustan's Ajnabee, with Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Kareena Kapoor. She played a married woman who goes all out to woo her husband’s married friend, and eventually won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for her performance.

Besides acting, Bips, as her friends call her, did the famous video "Tu" for Sonu Nigam's album, Kismat and made a guest appearance in Jay Sean's music video Stolen.[1] In 2006, she won popular acclaim for her Item number Beedi in the song Omkara.

Katrina Kaif

kaif (born July 16, 1984) is a model and Bollywood actress.

One of 8 siblings, Katrina was born on July 16, 1984, in Hong Kong to British parents, her father being of Kashmiri origin. She grew up in Hawaii and then moved to London.

At the age of 14, Kaif started modeling for a jewelry campaign in London, and was subsequently discovered by filmmaker Kaizad Gustad, who gave her a part in his film Boom. She moved to Mumbai and was offered a number of modeling assignments. However, filmmakers were at first hesitant to sign her because of her linguistic shortcomings, such as her inability to speak Hindi[4]. Aishwarya Rai born November 1, 1973 is an Indian actress. Prior to her career in film, she worked as a model and gained fame for winning the Miss World contest in 1994.


Rai was born in Mangalore, in the South Indian state of Karnataka, the daughter of Krishnaraj Rai, a marine biologist, and Vrinda Rai, a writer. Her ancestors are from the Bunt community of Mangalore. Her family relocated to Mumbai (Bombay) after her birth. Rai has one elder brother, Aditya Rai who is in the merchant navy. Rai attended the Arya Vidya Mandir at Santacruz, Mumbai, then entered Jai Hind College, Churchgate, Mumbai for one year and then moved to Ruparel College, Matunga, Mumbai to finish her HSC. She was an A student and was on track to become an architect. Her mother tongue is Tulu. She also speaks Hindi, English, Kannada, Marathi and Tamil.

Rai began modeling on the side while pursuing for studies in Architecture, which did not materialise. In the 1994 Miss India pageant, she was placed second behind Sushmita Sen, and went on to win the Miss World title that same year and the Miss Photogenic award. After the one year reign as Miss World in London, she then worked as a professional model, in advertising and Indian fashion magazines and later got into the Indian film industry.

Screening of Jodhaa Akbar stopped in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Screening of Bollywood movie Jodhaa Akbar has been stopped in multiplexes across the city following protests by the Rajput community.

A group of people also vandalised a single-screen cinema hall, screening the movie, in Naroda area of the city on Sunday.

“Most of the multiplexes have temporarily stopped screening of the film after a group of around 25 persons came to all the multiplexes and warned against screening the film,” Manubhai Patel, president of Multiplexes Owners’ Association of Gujarat told PTI.

“We are trying to convince the people of Rajput community to allow us to screen the movie,” he added.

Meanwhile, a group of around 25 people broke glass doors, windows and furniture at the Galaxy Cinema Hall.

Saif wants Kareena

Saif Ali Khan says although he would love to team up with girlfriend Kareena Kapoor in all his productions, he has made it clear that he has not been instrumental in getting her a role in his untitled venture.

"It's entirely between Kareena and my business partner Dinesh Vijen. There was a verbal commitment between them for a couple of projects. Kareena and I don't discuss business," said Saif, who will be seen in Abbas-Mustan's ready-to-release action thriller Race.

"It is entirely the directors' prerogative and we sign up the stars they want. Yes, I'd want Kareena and I to be in all our productions. But I'm not going to thrust our pair down producers' throats. Of course, I'd like Kareena to be in every film I make. But my directors may have other plans," he added.

After J.P. Dutta's LOC, the two will be seen together in Yash Raj Films' Tashan.

Saif has admitted his relationship with Kareena, who broke up with longstanding boyfriend Shahid Kapur. Saif also got 'Kareena' tattooed on his arm. Sadly, the famous arm has been injured. His hand was bandaged when he performed with a rock band in Bangalore and Mumbai last month.

"Yeah, I injured my right hand while shooting in Greece. I put a glass down too hard after a drink. And it broke in my hand. It's no big deal. The only thing is that I can't shake hands. Fortunately, it didn't affect my guitar-playing," said the actor whose Ta Ra Rum Pum and Eklavya - The Royal Guard bombed last year.

Saif says those who constantly ask him about the 'Kareena' tattoo annoy him.

"On the other hand, you can't really blame them, I suppose it's a big deal. So people will talk about it for sometime and then stop talking after a while. You got to remove yourself from the place of discomfort and look at it more dispassionately," he said.

He was aware that the media would focus on the tattoo rather than his music when he performed at the concerts. "Fortunately, the audience appreciated the music. Look, the limelight is a moving spotlight. Once in a while, you are caught in it," the actor added.

Couldn't he get the tattoo done in a less visible place? After all, it's all about Saif and his love. "No. It's between me and my arm," he shot back.

After the successful rock concerts, would Saif like to cut an album?

"No, can't sing beyond the lower notes. I was in Alibaug to finish the last schedule of Kunal Kohli's untitled film January 28 to February 3. We're done with this film," he said.

Show-cause notice to Manyata

South Goa district administration on Monday issued show-cause notice to Sanjay Dutt's wife Manyata seeking clarification why her residence certificate submitted in connection with her court marriage should not be cancelled.

32-year-old Manyata had submitted a certificate claiming her residence at Aquem, in south Goa's Margao town.

The certificate was used during the declaration of her marriage with Dutt, 48, in sub registrar's office on February 7 pending final signature, which has to be executed within 90 days.

Margao 'mamlatdar' (senior government officer) Paresh Faldesai, in his notice, has given the starlet time till on Tuesday to submit her clarification.

''It has come to the notice that you have not been residing at the given address. Show cause why your residence certificate should not be cancelled,'' the notice, sent to Manyata's Goa address through circle inspector, reads.

The controversy over the certificate had put a question mark on the issue of Manyata's legal union with Dutt.

''We have given her the opportunity to clarify. If she fails to reply, then her residence certificate will be cancelled,'' said the district administration official.

The authorities have already informed the sub registrar about the suspension of the residence certificate based on which the marriage formalities of Manyata and Dutt have been kept on hold.

Officials said that Manyata has to provide any valid proof that she has been staying at the shown Goa address.

''It's upto her what proof she brings,'' they said. Dutt-Manyata legal marriage registration row has already seen a 'talathi' (village level revenue officer) being suspended for issuing 'bogus' residence certificate.

Dutt and Manyata were married as per Hindu rites in Mumbai on February 11.

The Tomahawk is a Viper V-10 based motorcycle, a 500 horsepower engine with four wheels beneath it.
Chrysler will be selling the original Tomahawk concept and nine replicas through Neiman Marcus, for up to $555,000 each. The motorcycles cannot be licensed, so they cannot be legally driven on public roads. A Chrysler spokesman said they were meant as rolling sculptures.

The Dodge Tomahawk can reach 60 miles an hour in about 2.5 seconds, and has a theoretical top speed of nearly 400 mph. Each pair of wheels is separated by a few inches and each wheel has an independent suspension. Bernhard said four wheels were necessary to handle the power from the engine.

The Tomahawk remains on display at auto shows - though well out of reach of the general public, elevated on a special display.

Nokia has unveiled the Nokia N96 dual-slide multimedia computer which is truly optimised for video and TV.






Nokia N96 has a 2.8-inch screen, 16GB of internal memory, support for video in a wide range of formats, and a DVB-H TV tuner for live TV broadcasting in select markets. The Nokia N96 supports common video formats including MPEG4, Windows Media Video and Flash, while transferring and accessing videos is fast with a USB 2.0 connection and WLAN and HSDPA support.

Nokia N96 can be further expanded with an optional microSD card, such as the new Nokia 8GB microSDHC card which increases the available memory of the Nokia N96 to a total of 24GB.

It also features a "kickstand" on the back cover that allows for hands-free viewing, media keys, a 3.5mm headphone connector and built-in 3D stereo speakers, Nokia Maps application with AGPS, a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, flash and video light and video capture. It allows DVD-like quality video capture at 30 frames per second. Further, with the integrated A-GPS, consumers can now 'geotag' their pictures with location data and share them with their online communities.

Nokia N96 users can take advantage of the Nokia Video Center, which offers access to a variety of mobile content like movie trailers, and video clips from YouTube, Reuters, and Sony Pictures. Sony Ericsson has unveiled its first Windows Mobile-based smartphone named Xperia X1.






The new smartphone from Sony Ericsson includes both optical and physical navigation pads at the bottom as well as a unique arc-slider QWERTY keyboard that tilts outward for more comfortable typing.

The new Xperia X1 phone has a 3-inch, 800x480 touchscreen VGA display, a 3.2 megapixel camera with Auto focus and a microSD slot. It features the Xperia panel interface that offers easy access to different things such as web, multimedia, applications etc. Also users can configure these panels according to their desire.

Users can avail of different methods of navigation like Touch, full QWERTY keyboard, 4-way key and optical joystick navigation. Sony Ericsson recently launched its latest slider phone in the Walkman series, the W910i, for Rs 19,000 in two colours - red and black. It features a 2.36-inch screen with 256k colours and a resolution of 320x240 pixels. The device comes with 40MB of built-in memory, and can be expanded with the packaged 2GB Memory Stick Micro card. Equipped with a 2-megapixel camera, the phone boasts of an auto-rotating display, which adjusts your display’s orientation according to how you hold the phone. Also, it has the proprietary Shake Control technology, which lets the user control his media player by flicking the W910i one way or the other, and also play games. Another feature, SenseMe, groups songs according to their tempo, creating custom playlists for different moods. The 3G phone boasts of Bluetooth, A2DP, FM Radio and a talk time of up to nine hours.

A handful of chip-makers at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona showed on Monday how a mobile device running Google’s mobile operating system, Android, might look.“It’s definitely very promising,” an analyst for technology research firm Gartner, Carolina Milanesi, said. “This means that we should be on track to see commercial devices in the second half of 2008.”With 30 phone, chip and software companies behind it, Google launched Android last year hoping to establish it as the standard operating system for mobile phones and to improve their quality of Web-browsing.Texas Instruments Inc, the largest maker of chips for cell phones, showed its prototype offering “one-button access” to Web-browsing, email, messaging and video.“The future ability of Android is exciting because it’s open-source, so it allows developers to come up with the next killer application,” said a company spokesman.Google said the demonstrations were “exactly the kind of momentum we hoped the announcement and the platform would generate.”

The new Corolla remains true to the brand's role as a subcompact sedan, with dimensions similar to the model it replaces. But it offers an all-new body with a lean, stylish shape, and it delivers increased interior and luggage room, more power, more economical engines and an all-new chassis and suspension.

The all-new Corolla will come in five grades - Standard, LE, XLE, the sporty S, and the performance-driven XRS.

The Corolla's wide, low profile was developed by Toyota Design in collaboration with styling studios in Turin, Italy. Its foundation was set by the search for a lower, sportier shape than that of the previous Corolla. That search drove the decision to move the bottom of the A-pillar forward and the bottom of the C-pillar aft to increase the angle of the window glass and to improve the Corolla's aerodynamic performance.

The standard body kit on S and XRS models helps to modify aerodynamics and enhance the Corolla's sporty look - these include a front underbody spoiler, fog lamps, rocker moldings, upper and lower rear spoilers, and for improved air management under the car, engine undercovers.

The 2009 Corolla's interior is sporty and distinctive - with roomy-feeling comfort. While Corolla maintains the same headroom, legroom and shoulder room as the previous model, it feels larger, thanks to a design that enhances comfort and improves utility, usability and storage.

Hippos are practically the very definition of Disney-cute. What sort of person could look at this big ol' rascal, playing away in her favorite swimming hole, and not think of stuffing her in a tutu and making her dance to classical music?
For chrissake look at them. There is no way you could look at a big, fat, happy, squishy, huggable hippo and not think, "If she could talk like a human, she would sound just like Jada Pinkett Smith and be oh so sassy." You would totally name her Sassybaskets and she would be your tutu-wearing, ballet-dancing, strut-walking pal for life. Just you and Sassybaskets against the world! Look out, New York, here comes Sassybaskets!

OH SHIT! RUN! It turns out in the real world, hippos fucking kill people.
There's this word, "territorial," that nature takes pretty seriously. When it's applied to a two-ton animal with teeth the size of bowling pins, that is one hell of a word. The sort of word you either pay very close attention to, or ignore and end up with a complimentary "Killed to death by a fucking hippo" tombstone. That sort of thing is really embarrassing for the family, you know?
The next time you settle in for a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos, take a moment to to reflect on the small fact that hippopotamuses kill more humans per year than any other animal in the entire continent of Africa. Only elephants are consistently larger than hippos, and only the Warner Brothers' Tasmanian Devil is more consistently aggressive.

That is not in fact a man and a hippo doing a live reenactment of a cartoon they saw. That's an experienced park ranger, who narrowly avoided getting killed by a hippo by sprinting over a hundred yards.
The late Steve Irwin, a man who used to tackle 12-foot crocodiles for fun and wave angry snakes filled with kill-you-before-your-next-heartbeat poison at a camera, considered a five-minute sequence where his camera team had to cross a river filled with hippos to be the single most dangerous moment ever filmed on his show.
The man who toyed with crocodiles, was scared shitless of hippos.

This is an animal so deliriously ridiculous, biologists refused to believe it could possibly be anything but an elaborate hoax when it was first discovered. But seriously, look at it. It's got a thick, furry body with a flat, beaver-like tail and otter-like feet and we're cool with that because he's so damn fuzzy. Then there's the matter of the big, leathery duck bill and it's suddenly more than a little weird, because that's ... that's not really supposed to happen to mammals.
And then there's the further matter of the very high degree of electroreceptivity in that there bill--it helps the platypus find food buried in the silt. Kinda like a hammerhead shark's head, only instead of being terrifying-looking eye protrusions with an awesome name, it's a goofy-looking duck bill. On a mammal. And OK so that's ... pretty weird, but so what? Their babies are called puggles for fuck's sake! Puggles!
Also they lay eggs for some reason.

And, they are poisonous.

Male platypi have a pair of spurs on their hind legs that they use for defense and dominance duels. They deliver a brutal dose of venom that will put a human being into the emergency room and leave him writhing in muscle-impaired agony for months.
The platypus is mother nature's way of saying, "I made this thing out of spare parts I found on the workshop floor, and it can still fucking cripple you."

Dingo (Canis lupus dingo)

Look at him. Look at that fur, those eyes, that playful grin. If that dingo was behind a clear plastic wall at a pet shop, we would take him home in a heartbeat. We'd name him Bandit and put a red bandanna around his neck and we'd take him out to the lake in a pickup truck and he'd hang his head out the window as we drove, howling along to the radio.
If we died, he'd lie down on our graves and just howl away. For the rest of his life. Because he'd miss us so fucking much.
Bandit would be the best goddamned dog there ever was.
And if he ever got rabies, we'd be the ones to put him down.
It just wouldn't be right any other way.

STOP. We can practically feel you trying to reach out a hand to give the Dingo a scratch behind the ear so he knows what a good boy he's being but seriously and for fuck's sake STOP.

That adorable little guy with the silly name and the gleam in his eye is, in fact, absolutely nothing like your blessed yellow Labrador-mix that was the only friendly face you saw all day in your childhood.
No. That is a wild, as in untamed, as in feral, meaning thoroughly and completely--this is important--a dangerous and unpredictable animal.
Wild dogs--also called fucking wolves--are inquisitive, intelligent predators that travel in packs. Which means there are several of them and they all think "fair fight" means "we outnumber the hell out of you". Do a Google search on "Dingo," and look over all of those pages. Notice a theme? Every single one of them manages to repeat the exact same sentiment ad nauseum:
Do not attempt to pet the dingos. Do not attempt to play with the dingos. Do not throw squeaky toys to the fucking dingos or attempt to sneak scraps of food to the fucking dingos from the dinner table. If a fucking dingo follows you home, you should not keep it. DO NOT LET A DINGO PLAY WITH YOUR INFANT.
It took 7,000 years of breeding and training to make your pet dog. This is not your pet dog. This is a fucking dingo.

Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes)

These guys are practically people. No, fuck that, they're practically better than people. Chimps have done everything from fly jet planes to sleep in the same bed as a former President of the United States. If you put a chimp in front of a camera with an action star, you have no choice but to prepare for a wild, wacky romp that will tug your heartstrings and tickle your funny bone until you vomit your entire digestive system in pure laugh-a-minute glee. And then, at the end, we all learn a valuable lesson: usually that Burt Reynolds can be consistently outwitted by lesser primates.

It's that grin. That huge, toothy grin they flash for the cameras, it makes them look like devilish little scamps, like they have some great and hilarious secret they cannot wait to share. And then they put their arms around the action star and snuggle in and everybody goes awwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Then they pucker their lips and make fart noises and everybody just laughs until they die.

OH SHIT! RUN!

That is not a grin. What that is, see, is a mouthful of very large teeth being bared. Right at you.
The chimp is attempting to inform you that you are invading his space. If you do not understand this, the chimp would be happy to further elaborate. With that mouthful of very fucking large teeth. While smashing his very long and extremely strong arms about your head and shoulders, grabbing your hair and slamming your head into things. All the while shrieking a vicious symphony of noise that is calling all his buddies over to beat you until you cannot grow anymore. Following which, they will pelt you with feces.
It's sort of like a fraternity initiation, only they don't give a shit if you survive. For instance, look how the adorable monkey treats his "friend" the zoologist, who's been coming to his island and feeding him bananas for years.

If that clip reminds you less of Ross's adorable pet monkey on Friends and more of Stephen Seagal "taking out the trash," that's because you watched it. Now imagine what that monkey would do to your goofy, non-banana bringing ass if you tried to make him wear a funny hat and a necktie.
Oh, here's something to make that mental image even worse: On four recorded occasions in the last 50 years, chimpanzees have abducted, killed and eaten human babies. That's human with an H, as in Homo Sapiens, as in a human baby getting wrenched out of its mother's arms, dragged off into the forest and devoured by a chimp. We are not making this up.

Swan (Anatidae Cygnus, dozens of subspecies)

Such poise. Such grace. The way they glide effortlessly across the water. That unmistakable curve to their necks that forms a perfect heart when they nuzzle with their mate, who they will stay with for the rest of their lives.

This is the bird our mothers promised us we would grow up to be after yet another day of getting beat up for being so goddamned ugly. We're adults now (and still fuck-ugly) and the swan's beauty has endured, only growing stronger as we grow older. In another 40 years, there we'll be, on a bench in a park with a bag of breadcrumbs in our hands, just watching the swans drift by, reminding us that in the end, everything turned out OK.
OH SHIT! RUN! Getting chased through a park by a furious bird that will not stop trying to rip your skin off your bones is only funny until it happens to you.

Yes, swans are aggressive as hell. According to this video, the only defense against swan attack is to actually grab the bird by the neck and heave it as far as you can while onlookers applaud.
Just like that one girl in history class that you thought was the single most beautiful woman you'd ever seen in your life who you mooned over for months and left little notes for, it turns out swans are now and have always been vicious, mean little motherfuckers who will not hesitate to snap your fingers off one by one for daring to pollute its presence. And then going off to laugh with all their friends about what a huge loser you are.
In Ireland, it is not uncommon for university rowing teams to cancel practice because there is a swan in the river. Rowing teams tend to be composed of men who are built like very large trees. Trees that bench-press Volvos. These men are terrified of swans, probably due to a grizzled old rowing coach, always looking on from the shore, a bill-shaped scar where his left eye used to be.

Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)

This cannot be right. These guys save humans. Every other year or so, some diver or something gets lost out at sea, these guys bring them home. For fuck's sake, in November of 2004, a bunch of these guys banded together and saved three lifeguards from a great white shark off the coast of New Zealand.
They're fucking dolphins.

They can talk. They shoot high-pitched chirps and squeaks back and forth, slap their tails in the surf and jump around to let each other know what kind of day they're having. This is the only animal in the world that Americans feel proud of not eating. This is fucking Flipper here, every third girl you met in college had at least one tattooed somewhere on her body.
No animal in the world is more closely linked to DayGlo rainbows.

The discovery that Bottlenose Dolphins were occasionally viciously reconfiguring their own children wasn't really all that much of a big deal. Humans are the only species on the planet that actually gives even a tiny shit about infanticide. It was what the dolphins were doing to the porpoises that entered the domain of the 'seriously fucked-up'.
Thirteen-foot male Bottlenose Dolphins were hunting down porpoises, beating to death and then playing with their corpses, all for no readily apparent reason. At the time of this writing, the majority opinion of the marine science community was that this breathtakingly savage interspecies homicide is for--and this is Science, here--shits 'n' giggles.

Reports of ludicrously sexually aggressive dolphins attempting to rape human women abound from all over the globe. And in 1994, a male Bottlenose off the coast of San Paolo, Brazil, that was noted to be fond of female human swimmers attacked a pair of human males that the dolphin apparently considered to be competition ... and killed one of them.
Sure, some accounts say the man was drunk, and was actively trying to shove a stick into the dolphin's blowhole at the time. And several locals had apparently first tried to drag it out of the water so they could take a picture with it, maybe first dressing it up with a top hat and monocle.
And here, of course, we have arrived at our lesson: when dealing with animals, you need to forget everything you learned from cartoons. The results can be deadly otherwise.

Falling in love is a magical experience that happens between two people. So why do people fall in love? Professor Arthur Aron from State University of New York at Stonybrook has been exploring the dynamics of what happens when two people are falling in love:

Q: What motivates people to seek out love?
A: Our primary motivation as human beings is to expand the self and to increase our abilities and our effectiveness. One of the ways we accomplish this is through our relationships with other people. We have learned in our research that it is important to feel that you have the ability to be an effective person, especially in our relationships.

Q: How does this theory of self-expansion explain the process of falling in love?
A: Usually, we fall in love with a person that we find attractive and appropriate for us, but also someone who demonstrates that they are attracted to us. This creates a situation where a great opportunity is open to us for self-expansion. The fact that they are attracted to us offers a significant opportunity — when we perceive this, we feel a surge of exhilaration!

Q: Does it always work this way?
A: No, an interesting exception to this occurs if we feel badly about ourselves. The process gets thrown off if we can't believe that another persons finds us attractive — like the Groucho Marx joke where we don't want to belong to a club that would have us for a member. We tend to miss out on opportunities for falling in love if we don't feel good about ourselves.

Q: What conditions are best for meeting someone and falling in love?
A: When you meet someone under conditions that are highly arousing — a political demonstration, turbulence on a plane, a stimulating performance — a time when the body is stirred up and excited, we tend to experience attraction at a heightened level. This effect is well documented but the explanations for it are very controversial. I tend to believe that we come to associate the arousal of the situation with this person and our own self-expansion.

A: Contrary to what most people think, the statistics show that most people fall in love with someone that they have known for a while. People only report falling in love quickly about 1/3 to 40 percent of the time. Of course, this varies from culture to culture. Falling in love happens differently between cultures but it does occur in most cultures.

Q: How does our appearance factor into the equation of falling in love?
A: This is interesting; we have found that if you are very unattractive, it can hurt you a lot in forming romantic relationships. However, being attractive doesn't help that much.

Q: How do you explain that?
A: We have found that two important characteristics, kindness and intelligence, are extremely important in the process of falling in love. And attractiveness is not connected to these things. These two attributes are things that people learn about someone from knowing them over time. Intelligence is important in all aspects of life, especially in love. But kindness is the strongest indicator for a successful long-term relationship.

" RAMA RAMA KYA HAI DRAMAA " MOVIE SYNOPSIS:

Three married couples -- Prem and Khushi, Santosh and Shanti and Mr. and Mrs. Khurana are unhappy in their respective marriages. Santosh is married to Shanti, a small town girl, but soon finds that Shanti is not the one who he had yearned for. The petty differences between the two starts popping up and fed up by his wife, Santosh starts daydreaming and imagining other women as his wives.
