New twist in Harbhajan Singh hearing

There is a new twist to the hearing of the racial abuse charge levelled against Harbhajan Singh at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, India have lodged a counter-claim of abuse, alleging that Brad Hogg referred to an Indian player as a “bastard.”

The charge appears to be an attempt to counter Australia’s contention that “monkey” has a racial connotation, a stance India have challenged.

However, it has emerged that the hearing into Hogg's conduct will be held separately from Harbhajan’s case.

The Kangaroos have been taken aback by the charge-sheet on Hogg. It is learnt that skipper Anil Kumble, too, criticised the conduct of the Australian players.

The Indian case could be helped by the fact that neither Steve Bucknor nor Mark Benson heard any racial remarks directed at Symonds.

Even Channel Nine technicians have been unable to gather any video or audio evidence to support Australia's complaint.
